Course Description:
This course provides an opportunity for the student to develop skills in research and retrieval of information, operation and use of computer and audiovisual equipment, and processing and circulation of materials. Students in this course also learn about attitudes and skills necessary to provide service to patrons and acquire awareness about careers in librarianship, information science, teaching, and public service.

Job Description:
  • To help maintain the library in efficient working order.
  • To acquire specialized skills and knowledge relating to various library procedures.

Duties:
Library aides will be assigned one or more of the following tasks:
  • Working at the circulation desk
  • Shelving books and other materials
  • Processing books and other materials
  • Reading shelves
  • Updating and filing magazines
  • Creating displays and bulletin boards
  • Assisting with special projects

Procedures:
  • All library aides are to report on time as scheduled
  • Assignments will be given at the time of reporting
  • General school behavior and dress code rules are to be followed in the library
  • Library aides are expected to be courteous and helpful to other students at all times.

Grading:
Grades will be earned based on Staff Evaluations, Self Evaluations and completion of assigned products as follows. Good Attendance is required.

Each Quarter:
Self-Evaluation
Assigned section is neat and orderly

First Semester:
Training Competency Exam
Bulletin Board or Special Project (Book reviews, bibliography, WebPage)

Second Semester:
Minimum one page cover letter explaining what you learned in this class
